A successful summer planter has autumn in its sights, with lots of room for soil and roots to grow. You can choose annuals that reflect the colours of fall and with a little tweaking you will have a beautiful planter that will transition smoothly.
Or you might prefer to welcome each season with totally new plant material and switch up colours and textures completely. I like to work with plants that are heat resistant and forgiving of the odd occasion that the watering is late. Perennials are great to add to the mix since they can be transplanted at the end of the season into your garden or a friend's.
The successful winter planter carries you through to February before it starts showing its age. Fresh greenery is key for this to happen. I like to use a mix of greens to provide texture, colour and fullness. Adding accent branches and colourful artificial picks, ornaments, and bows lets you express your style personality.
